New Delhi: In a significant success under the Delhi Police’s “Zero Tolerance” policy towards narcotics and in alignment with the Central Government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch has dismantled a major narco-trafficking syndicate operating across multiple states. The operation led to the seizure of a massive 288 kilograms of Cannabis (Ganja) and the arrest of two key operatives involved in the smuggling network.

The crackdown was the result of a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation spearheaded by the Crime Branch, based in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The team acted swiftly on credible information and executed a successful interception of the contraband at Sarai Kale Khan.

Major Breakthrough in Narcotics Control

According to officials, the busted syndicate was part of a larger network smuggling cannabis from Odisha to various states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and the Delhi-NCR region. The total market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around ₹50 lakhs.

The operation was supervised by Inspector Manmeet Malik and executed by a team led by Sub-Inspector Sushil. The raiding party also included ASI Parveen, Head Constables Monit, Ashish, and Amit, who played a critical role in ensuring the success of the mission.

Operation Unfolded

On June 22, 2025, actionable intelligence was received by SI Sushil regarding a narcotics-laden truck approaching the area near Shamshad Ghat, Sarai Kale Khan. A trap was promptly laid at the location. As the suspected vehicle arrived, it was successfully identified and intercepted by the team.

The truck was being operated by two individuals, later identified as:

Mukesh Dahiya, 39, a resident of Village Bhatt, PS Sonipat, District Sonipat, Haryana. He is the owner of the seized vehicle, which he reportedly purchased in March 2025. Prior to this, he worked as a truck driver. He is a 10th-grade pass.

Rajesh Dahiya, 29, also a resident of the same village in Sonipat. He was driving the truck at the time of interception. He has been working as a driver for the past 8-9 years and has completed education up to the 7th grade.

During a thorough search carried out in compliance with Section 50 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police discovered a hidden compartment in the truck’s loading area. Upon opening the concealed cavity, 139 plastic bags containing a total of 288 kg of cannabis were recovered.

An FIR under Sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Crime Branch.

Syndicate’s Modus Operandi & Further Investigation

Initial interrogation of the accused revealed that the cannabis originated from Odisha and was en route to an intended recipient in Delhi. The duo was apparently part of a larger distribution network that managed both the procurement and delivery of narcotics to multiple states.

Both Mukesh and Rajesh Dahiya are currently in police custody and are being interrogated for further information about the network’s financial backers, supply chain logistics, and end-distribution points. Investigators are hopeful that further leads will emerge from the ongoing questioning and digital analysis of communication devices recovered from the accused.

Police officials stated that the operation is part of a continued and aggressive campaign to eradicate drug trafficking networks operating across state borders. The success of this raid highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination and focused inteligence work.

Impact and Way Forward

The bust is seen as a major setback for interstate drug traffickers and a warning to others engaged in such illicit activities. The Crime Branch has vowed to continue its operations with renewed intensity, particularly targeting syndicates sourcing drugs from regions like Odisha which have become prominent hubs in the illegal cannabis trade.

Further arrests and seizures are expected as the investigation progresses. The Delhi Police reiterated its commitment to a drug-free society and emphasized that operations like these are key to dismantling the supply chains that fuel addiction and crime.
