If you live in Delhi and your vehicle is more than 15 years old, it’s time to be cautious before hitting the road. Starting today, the Delhi government has launched a strict crackdown on End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles — those that have crossed their permissible usage age.
According to the VAHAN database, around 62 lakh (6.2 million) vehicles in Delhi now fall into the EoL category. This includes 41 lakh two-wheelers and 18 lakh four-wheelers. In the broader NCR region, similar numbers are reported — 27.5 lakh in Haryana, 12.4 lakh in Uttar Pradesh, and 6.1 lakh in Rajasthan.
Enforcement Begins Today
From today, old vehicles will not be allowed to ply on roads, nor will they be permitted to refuel. As per the new policy, petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years are now banned from operation in Delhi. If caught, the owner will face a fine of ₹10,000, while two-wheeler owners will be fined ₹5,000 for vehicle seizure.
Fuel Ban and Heavy Surveillance
A total of 350 fuel stations across Delhi have been marked for monitoring, with Delhi Police deployed at 100 of the busiest pumps. Additionally, 59 stations will be monitored by Transport Department officials, while 91 sensitive stations will have joint teams from both the police and transport departments. The remaining 100 less-sensitive pumps will be supervised by MCD staff.
Government’s Objective: Cut Pollution and Traffic
The government’s intent is clear — to combat air pollution and reduce traffic congestion by removing outdated and highly polluting vehicles from the roads. The campaign is part of broader efforts to improve air quality and ensure safer transportation infrastructure.
As enforcement intensifies, vehicle owners are advised to check the age of their vehicles and comply with the new regulations to avoid fines and penalties.
