Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Dangal’ became a massive hit globally, earning over ₹2,000 crore at the box office. However, the film was notably absent from theaters in Pakistan. Recently, Aamir Khan shed light on why he refused to release ‘Dangal’ in Pakistan during his appearance on Rajat Sharma’s popular show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’.

The Reason Behind Not Releasing ‘Dangal’ in Pakistan

Aamir Khan explained that the Pakistani censor board demanded the removal of the Indian national flag and anthem from a pivotal scene in the film. The scene shows wrestler Geeta Phogat winning a match, with the Indian flag being hoisted and the national anthem playing. Aamir Khan outright refused to comply with this demand, prioritizing national pride over potential financial losses.

“When Dangal was released, Disney was one of the producers, and they presented the film,” Aamir Khan said. “Pakistan’s censor board asked us to remove the Indian flag and national anthem from the scene where Geeta Phogat wins a match. They said they won’t release the film unless this is done. I immediately said, ‘Then we won’t release it in Pakistan’.”

Aamir Khan’s Patriotic Stance

Aamir Khan’s decision to not release ‘Dangal’ in Pakistan reflects his strong patriotic stance. Despite concerns from producers about potential financial losses, Aamir Khan stood firm on his decision. “I don’t want to remove our national symbols just for money. I have no interest in releasing the film under such conditions,” he added.
