Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the voters of Delhi to give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) an opportunity in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections scheduled next month while addressing the ‘Parivartan Rally’ at Japanese Park in Rohini. He slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, saying that the government is not less than “AAP-Da” (disaster).
PM Modi condemned the AAP-led government for poor maintenance of the transport system in Delhi. He said, “The ‘AAP-DA’ people have left nothing to destroy Delhi’s transport system. These people are not paying any attention to the maintenance of buses.”
He further criticized the AAP government for mismanagement, which caused widespread waterlogging and increased air pollution in Delhi. He said, “When summer comes in Delhi, there is a fight for drinking water; when it rains, there is waterlogging, and when winter comes, it is difficult to breathe in polluted air. The energy of the people of Delhi is being spent in dealing with ‘AAP-DA’ people 365 days a year.”
He further urged people to give a chance to BJP by replacing AAP with BJP in the 2025 elections for the development of Delhi. He said, “Only when the ‘AAP-DA’ is removed from Delhi will the double engine of development (BJP) and good governance come.”
He further said, “The entire Delhi is proud of Bharat Mandapam, Yasho bhoomi, Kartavya Path…I feel sad that the ‘AAP-DA’ people have wasted 10 years of the people of Delhi.
He further took a dig at the Delhi government and said, “Today, a big newspaper came over the expenditure on ‘Sheesh Mahal’ on the basis of a CAG report. When the people of Delhi were fighting with Covid, they were focused on building ‘Sheesh Mahal.’ They are not bothered about the people of Delhi.”
“Last year, the central govt gave Rs 75,000 crores for the security, health, and other development projects. Delhi needs the kind of development that makes it a model of urban development in the world. This can only happen when the central and state governments of the BJP work for Delhi.” He further stressed the need to align the center and the Delhi government to develop Delhi.
PM Modi further pointed out that a quarter of the 21st century has passed, and the coming years are crucial for the development of India as a developed country.
He said, “Now the coming 25 years are very important for the future of India, for the future of Delhi. These 25 years will see India becoming a developed nation. We will see India passing through a new phase of modernity. It is very important that our Delhi, the capital of the country, walks step by step in this glorious journey. We have to develop Delhi as the capital of developed India.”
Kailash Gahlot, BJP candidate from the Bijwasan Assembly constituency, says, “It is clear that people want change this time. PM Modi has given a big gift to the people of Delhi. He spoke about urban mobility. He also confirmed that no people welfare scheme will be discontinued. So, the way AAP is scaring people that their free water and electricity will be stopped, he has cleared this misconception.”
Gahlot was backed by BJP MP Kamaljeet Shehrawat, who said, “Whatever schemes are going on in Delhi all these schemes will continue to be there along with newer schemes.”
AAP Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar countered the statement made by PM Modi and said, “PM Modi has nothing to say other than accusing Arvind Kejriwal. He also has half the government of Delhi; they (BJP) are in charge of law and order; it is under Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Everybody can see the way the law and order in Delhi has deteriorated in the last 2 years…BJP has no answer about this. Since the BJP has no CM face for Delhi and no vision for Delhi, they keep accusing Kejriwal.”
AAP MP Sanjay Singh took a dig at BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri over his viral video and criticized BJP. He said, “It is very shameful. BJP has given a ticket to a person who used abusive language in the Parliament and also to the person who was openly distributing money to the people. Making such cheap and shameless comments on a senior Congress leader is very unfortunate. The women of Delhi must have understood the kind of security they will be getting under their rule.”
Congress also joined the fray, with leader Supriya Shrinate accusing the BJP of being anti-woman, following controversial remarks made by BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
As the election season comes closer, it is clear that the political battle in Delhi is amplifying, with both the BJP and AAP positioning themselves as the party of change. The outcome of these elections will likely shape the future of the National Capital Delhi and its governance.
