On Wednesday, bail is granted to the Aam Adami Party MLA Naresh Balyan by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in connection with an extortion case.

An extortion case was logged last year on Naresh Balyan on the complaint of Gurcharan, a resident of Mohan Garden, West Delhi, who alleged in July 2023 that he had received an extortion call from gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu demanding Rs 1 crore.

On 30 November, BJP publicly played an audio clip of what it claimed was a conversation between Balyan and a gangster after which Naresh Balyan was arrested by the Delhi police.

On the same day, Naresh Balyan filed a bail petition. On Tuesday, the court extended the police custody by one day and sought the police’s response to a bail application filed by Balyan.

Meanwhile Delhi Police sought to arrest Balyan in a fresh case over alleged organised crimes. However, the court also dismissed the police plea seeking his arrest in a fresh case lodged under stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, calling it not maintainable after which the bail was granted to him.
