Adani, Google Join Hands to Build India’s Largest AI Hub

Adani Enterprises, Google to Build India’s Largest AI Data Centre

In a landmark collaboration poised to reshape India’s technological landscape, Adani Enterprises Ltd has partnered with Google Inc through its joint venture Adani ConneX to build the largest Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centre campus outside the United States. The upcoming facility will be located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and will form the cornerstone of a vast AI and cloud computing ecosystem in India.

The companies announced on Tuesday that the multi-phase project represents a combined investment of approximately $15 billion, marking one of the largest foreign technology investments in the country’s history. The partnership aims not only to establish world-class digital infrastructure but also to promote India as a global destination for innovation, AI development, and green technology.

Gigawatt-Scale Data Centre and AI Hub

According to a joint press release, the Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam will comprise gigawatt-scale data centre operations supported by a robust sub-sea cable network. The facility will be designed to handle some of the most demanding AI workloads, significantly boosting India’s computational and digital capabilities.

The project will also feature purpose-built AI data centre infrastructure, forming the foundation of Google’s AI initiatives in India. With massive compute capacity, the facility is expected to power next-generation machine learning, data analytics, and large-scale AI research.

In addition to Adani ConneX, telecom giant Airtel will be closely collaborating as part of the ecosystem, strengthening the project’s connectivity backbone.

Green Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure

Beyond its technological ambitions, the partnership underscores a strong commitment to sustainability and clean energy. Adani Enterprises and Google will co-invest in renewable energy generation, transmission lines, and advanced energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. This green infrastructure will not only power the AI data centre but will also enhance the overall capacity and resilience of India’s power grid.

The development aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals — Google’s mission to operate on carbon-free energy by 2030 and Adani’s ongoing investments in renewable power and decarbonisation initiatives. By combining digital growth with environmental responsibility, the project sets a new benchmark for sustainable technology infrastructure in Asia.

Gautam Adani Hails Partnership as “Investment in the Nation’s Soul”

Speaking about the collaboration, Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, described the initiative as a defining moment in India’s journey toward technological self-reliance.

“This is more than just an investment in infrastructure. It is an investment in the soul of a rising nation. This partnership is a testament to our shared vision of nation-building and our commitment to empowering every Indian with the tools of the 21st century,” Adani said.

He added that the development of the Visakhapatnam campus will transform the city into a global technology hub, positioning India as a key player in the global AI and cloud computing industry.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The establishment of the AI hub is expected to have a far-reaching economic and employment impact. According to the companies, the project will generate tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs across sectors such as technology, construction, logistics, and clean energy.

Visakhapatnam, known for its strategic coastal location and growing tech presence, is set to benefit immensely from the influx of investment and talent. The development of connectivity gateways and data ecosystems will also attract ancillary industries, further boosting local and national economies.

Experts believe the AI hub will accelerate India’s digital transformation, expand its global data network capacity, and encourage innovation across industries — from healthcare and education to manufacturing and finance.

Strengthening India’s Position in Global AI Landscape

With this strategic collaboration, India moves a step closer to becoming a global AI and data infrastructure powerhouse. The partnership between Adani Enterprises and Google symbolizes the growing convergence of Indian industrial strength and global technological leadership.

Once operational, the Visakhapatnam campus will not only serve as Google’s largest AI data centre outside the US but also stand as a beacon of India’s digital future, empowering millions with cutting-edge technological access and sustainable energy solutions.
