Telugu film star Allu Arjun was released from Chanchalguda prison in Hyderabad on Saturday morning at 6:40 am, after being granted interim bail for four weeks by the Telangana High Court.
The bail was granted in connection with a stampede at the premiere of his movie, Pushpa 2, which resulted in the death of 39-year-old M Revathi and left her nine-year-old son critically injured. Although the bail order was issued on Friday, the necessary papers reached the jail officials late at night, requiring Arjun to spend an additional night in prison.
As per prison protocol, releases are not permitted at night. The High Court also mandated that Arjun submit a surety of Rs 50,000. Arjun was initially arrested on Friday morning from his Hyderabad residence and was being transported to Chanchalguda prison following a lower court’s 14-day judicial custody order when the interim bail was granted.
