Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, attacked Amit Shah harshly on Wednesday and called for his resignation for his comments against Dr. BR Ambedkar. He claimed that if he continued to speak in this manner, the entire nation would be indignant because Babasaheb Ambedkar’s insult would not be accepted. The BJP accused the opposition of distorting Shah’s remark.
“He has insulted Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Constitution. His ideology of Manu Smriti and RSS makes it clear that he does not want to respect Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. We condemn this, and we demand his resignation. He should apologize to the people of the country…He should resign from his position,” Kharge said.
This comes after Amit Shah, in his address in the Rajya Sabha at the conclusion of a two-day discussion in Rajya Sabha on 75 years of the Constitution on Tuesday, lashed out at the Congress party and said that it had become a ‘fashion’ for the party to take Ambedkar’s name.
Reacting to this, Kharge demands Shah’s resignation over remarks on Dr Ambedkar. He alleged that taking Babasaheb Ambedkar’s name was a crime and it shows Shah intended to oppose the Constitution.
“When Amit Shah was talking about Dr BR Ambedkar, he said ‘You people keep chanting the name of Ambedkar 100 times, if you took the name of God these many times, you would have gone to heaven 7 times’. This means that taking the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar is a crime, and he intended to oppose the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar. I opposed this but I was not given the opportunity,” he added.
Earlier today, the opposition demonstrated at the Parliament building while holding a picture of Dr. Ambedkar. As a result, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the two houses of Parliament, were adjourned until 2:00 PM today.
