Babasaheb Ambedkar’s grandson, Prakash Ambedkar, charged on Wednesday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments regarding the drafter of the Indian Constitution demonstrated the BJP’s “same old mentality.” He asserted that the BJP “will continue to sulk” since they are unable to “execute their plans” because of Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.

Prakash’s statement has added fuel to the fire. The INDIA bloc MPs in Parliament were outraged by Prakash’s statements and demanded that Amit Shah apologize for his “insulting” remarks about BR Ambedkar. They said the claims were offensive to the drafter of the Constitution. Shah was also requested by the Congress to issue a public and parliamentary apology.

“Before the BJP came into existence, its forerunners Jan Sangh and RSS had opposed Babasaheb while the Constitution was being adopted,” quoted Prakash Ambedkar, head of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi as saying in Pune. He said the home ministers’ statement brought the mentality of BJP to the fore.

“There is nothing new in the statement. They are not able to execute their old plans. Not because of Congress, but because of Babasaheb Ambedkar and they will continue to sulk,” Prakash Ambedkar further said.

He argued that Shah’s remarks imply that people should revere God instead of BR Ambedkar, as revering the father of the Constitution means upholding freedom of speech. “Revering God is as good as accepting ‘manuwad’,” he added.

“Revering God is as good as accepting ‘manuwad’,” he added. He also charged that MVA leaders ignored Parbhani while invoking the names of B R Ambedkar, Shahu Maharaj, and Jyotiba Phule to garner votes.
