The BJP has claimed that the perpetrator arrested for the alleged sexual assault of an Anna University student in Chennai is a “repeat offender and a DMK functionary”.
The Incident, which occurred on December 23, involved a 37-year-old man named Gnanasekaran who sells biryani near the University. He was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting the student, which sparked protests by student organizations and ignited political controversy over the safety of women in the state.
BJP state president K Annamalai shared a photo of Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other DMK leaders with the accused. In a post on X. He said, “noting that a criminal gets closely linked to local DMK functionaries and then becomes a member of the party.” He further added, “All the cases registered against him get suppressed, and he gets leeway by not being categorized as a history-sheeter or kept on the watchlist of the local police station.”
Annamalai also claimed that the police did not inspect previous cases against him due to the “pressure” from local DMK leaders and ministers, which perpetuated him to undertake further crimes. And Question the accountability of the Tamil Nadu government to its people.
Annamalai accused the officials leaked the FIR which had information about the victim because the offender was from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). he further added that “DMK failed in its basic duty to protect the details of the victims. Chief Minister MK Stalin is fully responsible for this incident.” He condemned the DMK government and CM MK Stalin for “engaging in such reprehensive and deceitful activities to protect a DMK sex offender”.
DMK spokesperson A Saravanan denies the allegations and said that the picture with the party leader does not convey the culpability of the party. In a post on X, he said, “The accused has been arrested, and he cannot escape justice from the DMK government,” he further added, “No matter who did the wrong, the Tamil Nadu police will take action.” He also wrote, “Those who cannot shake the DMK politically continue to spread false allegations that law and order have deteriorated.”
