Over the ongoing attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, supported Narendra Modi government in its efforts to address the alleged attacks and targeting of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
CM Banerjee stated that although she had a conversation with ISKCON in Bengal, she has no authority over this issue. “We do not want any religion to be harmed. Since this concerns another country, the Central government must take relevant action. We stand with them on this issue,” she said in a legislative assembly session.
Indian leaders have reacted sharply to the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a monk with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), and the increasing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
India had before voiced worry over attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh and denounced Das’s arrest. The Ministry of External Affairs also called for the prosecution of individuals who commit acts of violence against minorities.
