A 20-year-old girl from Bengaluru lost ₹2.5 crore of her family’s money after her boyfriend blackmailed her with personal videos. The lover used the victim’s confidence and promise of marriage to coerce her into giving him money, jewelry, costly watches, and even a luxury automobile. The offender has been identified as Mohan Kumar, 19, of Chamarajpet.
According to CCB sources, Kumar and his companion attended the same boarding school in Devanahalli. They had a romance before starting university. During the holidays, they traveled with Kumar’s pals. Kumar purportedly told his companion during vacation that he would marry her, and the two became romantically involved. The girl transferred Rs. 1.25 crore from her grandmother’s bank account.
He covertly videotaped and photographed them while they were together. Kumar planned to extort money from his girlfriend’s father, who happens to be a wealthy businessman. He started demanding money from her.
When she declined, he allegedly threatened to post the tapes and photographs on social media. Fearing this, the child moved Rs 1.25 crore from her grandmother’s bank account to several other accounts, as instructed by Kumar. In addition, she handed him Rs 1.32 crore in cash
According to authorities, Kumar allegedly coerced the girl into giving him jewelry, costly watches, and a vehicle. As his demands increased and he reportedly threatened to harm her and her family members, the girl filed.
The sleuths are looking into the involvement of Kumar’s father and others listed in the FIR. The sleuths recovered Rs 80 lakh from the offenders. Kumar has also been charged under the POCSO Act since the girl was a child when he shot the tapes. Further investigations are underway.
