To mark the first anniversary of the Ayodhya Ram temple, the Bharatiya Janata Party declared that a Ram temple would be built in West Bengal. This came amidst a row over the Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir’s comments that the Babri Masjid has not yet been rebuilt thirty years after it was demolished causing a stir.
“Ram Mandir should not be built as a response to the mosque. Babri Masjid can be constructed, and Ram Mandir can also be constructed… The same person who said Babri Masjid would be constructed once said that Hindus would be massacred and thrown into the Bhagirathi. There was no show-cause notice or punishment for these statements,” BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said.
She also charged CM Mamata Banerjee for inciting intercommunal strife for political gains. She added that the vote bank has led Mamta to let go of all these in West Bengal. Earlier, TMC MLA Humayun Kabir emphasized rebuilding Babri Masjid and stated it was an emotional part of Muslims.
West Bengal’s Baharampur seemed to be emerging as a new arena for political confrontation between the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Murshidabad unit of the BJP has announced plans to build a Ram temple in Baharampur.
According to the BJP’s plan, the Ram temple’s construction is scheduled to start on January 22, 2025. The Ram temple in Ayodhya was inaugurated exactly one year ago today. Shakharav Sarkar, the BJP’s Baharampur Organisational District President, affirmed that the temple’s site has already been chosen and that the project is expected to cost Rs 10 crore.
