Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde charged Rahul Gandhi by quoting a letter by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in which she allegedly praised the Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. This was in response to Rahul Gandhi’s remark made on Savarkar.

He referenced a 1980 letter where Indira Gandhi described Veer Savarkar as a “remarkable son of India.” In response, Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s son questioned whether Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother, Indira Gandhi, was also against the Constitution. He criticized Rahul Gandhi’s habit of speaking against Savarkar, affirming that they take pride in praising Savarkar and will continue to do so.

A war of words erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress after Rahul Gandhi invoked Veer Savarkar. During the discussion on the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. Rahul Gandhi stated that Veer Savarkar had clearly stated in his writings that there is nothing Indian about our Constitution. Additionally, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Savarkar, who is viewed as a BJP and RSS ideologue, favored the Hindu sacred classic “Manusmriti”.

“I want to ask you (ruling side), do you stand by your leader’s words? Do you support your leader’s words? Because when you speak in Parliament about protecting the Constitution, you are ridiculing Savarkar, you are abusing Savarkar, you are defaming Savarkar”, he added.

Kiren Rijiju posted a document on social media and said, “This document is for Rahul Gandhi Ji as he made an incorrect statement in Lok Sabha about Veer Savarkar. Indira Gandhi.”

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal questioned whether Rahul Gandhi had forgotten the day he destroyed a bill that his own administration had passed during the tenure of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “That very day, he had insulted the Constitution.”
