The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has responded to Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of disrespecting former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during his funeral. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra led the press conference, dismissing Gandhi’s claims and providing a detailed account of the respect accorded to Dr. Singh during his final rites.

According to Patra, the Cabinet convened a meeting immediately after Dr. Singh’s passing, issuing a condolence message and deciding to honor him appropriately. A letter was sent to the Congress party and Dr. Singh’s family, stating the intention to establish a memorial in his honor. Patra emphasized that the BJP wishes to remember Dr. Singh’s contributions to the nation and the world.

Patra also alleged that it was the Congress party that disrespected Dr. Singh during his tenure as Prime Minister. He stated that the BJP does not differentiate between parties or political groups after someone’s demise, believing that respect should be accorded regardless of affiliations.

The controversy surrounding Dr. Singh’s funeral began when Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of disrespecting the former Prime Minister by holding his funeral at Nigambodh Ghat. However, Patra’s response suggests that the BJP had, in fact, made efforts to honor Dr. Singh’s legacy.

It’s worth noting that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that Dr. Singh’s last rites be performed at a place where a memorial could be built. The BJP’s response indicates that the party had intended to establish a memorial for Dr. Singh, contrary to Gandhi’s accusations.
