Amid chaos over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about BR Ambedkar in Parliament, the BJP and Congress staged simultaneous rallies outside Parliament on Thursday. While the Congress called for the resignation of the Union Home Minister, BJP MPs protested on the grounds of Parliament, accusing the Congress of deceiving the public. The Gandhi family came under fire from Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, who said that they had given themselves the Bharat Ratna while denying Ambedkar the same honor. “Congress party is the biggest sinner for disrespecting Babasaheb. The whole family took the Bharat Ratna and didn’t give it to Babasaheb…Congress party should fast for 24 hours and take a vow of silence to atone for their sins,” Singh said. Singh claimed that Amit Shah explained with examples of how Congress has disrespected Babasaheb Ambedkar.
This comes after Amit Shah on Wednesday evening held a presser and accused the Congress of being “anti-Ambedkar and anti-Constitution.” He said that his statement was presented in a “distorted manner (tod marod kar).” According to Shah, the Congress leader ought not to have backed his party’s “nefarious efforts.” He claimed that under “pressure from Rahul Gandhi,” Kharge, a member of the Dalit community, had joined the cause.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar adjourned the Rajya Sabha after notices demanding discussions on various issues, including Amit Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar and farmers’ protests were submitted.
