In a harsh attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari pledged to put Mamata behind bars when his party comes to power in the state.
Addressing Mamata’s speech in Sandeshkhali, Adhikari claimed Mamata has been conspiring to slap false cases against women in the area ahead of the 2024 elections. He also alleged that Banerjee had framed women from Sandeshkhali and sent them to jail.
Adhikari’s announcement came a day after Banerjee’s visit to the people of Sandeshkhali and asking people to ‘let bygones be bygones’. However, Adhikari mentioned that the people of Sandeshkhali will never forget the cruelties committed against them.
In a response to Adhikari’s allegations, TMC state Vice President and Spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar dismissed the claims, stating they were ‘rubbish’, and said that ‘the BJP will not come to power in West Bengal for the next 100 years’.
TMC also brought light to a sting operation video that claimed that Adhikari instructed a local BJP leader to project unassaulted women as ‘rape victims’ to tarnish TMC’s reputation.
