Today, a boiler explosion occurred at the Bharuch GIDC industrial area in Gujarat, taking the lives of four people and injuring 11 other passersby and workers. This incident occurred at Canton Laboratories Chemical Plants, a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates, a prominent facility within the industrial zone.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was a massive blast that damaged nearby windows and buildings, sending debris flying everywhere. This incident took the lives of four people, including a four-year-old girl and her mother, who were passing by at an unfortunate time, and two workers. Eleven workers and passersby were injured; they suffered various injuries, including burns, lacerations, fractures, and respiratory issues due to inhalation of toxic fumes. They are currently receiving medical treatment in nearby hospitals, including the Intensive Care Unit.
The company and local authorities have assured support for the injured, with medical expenses being covered, compensation for lost wages for workers, and rehabilitation support for workers with long-term injuries.
Authorities have started an investigation to find the cause of the explosion and identify measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. However, some reports suggest that a technical glitch might have triggered the boiler blast. For now, the plant has been shut down temporarily until further notice.
