Indian students pursuing higher education in Canada have reported receiving emails requesting the resubmission of crucial documents. These documents include study permits, visas, academic records, grades, and attendance records. The unexpected request has caused confusion and concern among the students.
Since many international students have visas that are only valid for two years, the request from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a federal agency that deals with international students, prompted widespread fear.
This is the IRCC’s most recent effort to control the inflow of international students by tightening its regulations. Along with investigating possible limits on student enrolment, the department also instituted the need for more stringent financial regulations. A similar incident was reported last week when few students received mail from Punjab. They were asked to visit IRCC offices which created confusion.
The number of overseas students enrolled in Canada has increased recently, and a significant portion of these students are Indian. The number of Indian students studying in Canada this year is 4,27,000, which is more than the number in the United States, where 3,37,630 students have registered for 2024.
