On Sunday, Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, the gunfight erupted in the morning within the forested region of the Indravati National Park as a joint team of security forces conducted an anti-Naxalite operation.
Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and District Force were involved in the operation, he said. After the intermittent exchange of fire stopped, bodies of three Maoists clad in ‘uniform’ along with firearms, including the automatic ones, and explosives were recovered from the site, the official said. A search operation was still underway in the area, he added.
The efforts to identify the deceased are under way as search operations continue. The operation occurred in the dense forest under the National Park area of Bijapur.
The encounter follows an explosion on Saturday, where a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan sustained injuries from an improvised explosive device planted by Maoists.
The blast occurred when a team from the CRPF’s 196 Battalion, stationed at Mahadev Ghat, was conducting an area domination exercise.
The injured jawan was admitted to Bijapur District Hospital for treatment. With this, 12 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in the state so far this year.
