Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has paid a heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, describing him as a humble and self-effacing leader who transformed India’s economy and society. Chidambaram, who worked closely with Dr. Singh for many years, recalled his historic achievements, including the liberalization of the economy and the creation of India’s middle class.

According to Chidambaram, Dr. Singh’s tenure as Finance Minister and Prime Minister marked a “golden chapter” in India’s history. He praised Dr. Singh’s empathy for the poor, citing initiatives like MGNREGA, the restructuring of the Public Distribution System (PDS), and the extension of the mid-day meal scheme.

Chidambaram noted that Dr. Singh’s story has not been fully told, and his achievements have not been fully recorded. However, he expressed confidence that future generations will recognize Dr. Singh’s true contribution to India’s growth and development.

The tribute comes as the nation mourns the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Dr. Singh was credited with steering India’s economy through a period of rapid growth and transformation.
