Child Marriage: Assam Police Detains 416 People in Third Phase, Says CM Himanta Sarma

416 people have been arrested in a massive crackdown against child marriage on the night of December 21-22 in Assam. Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about the arrests through his social media account on Sunday.

He said, “Assam continues its fight against child marriage. In Phase 3 operations launched on the night of Dec 21-22, 416 arrests were made and 335 cases registered. The arrested individuals will be produced in court today. We will continue to take bold steps to end this social evil!”

CM Himanta Sarma has been steadfast in his stance of eliminating child marriage from Assam by 2026. In the Phase 1 Operation in February 3483 people were arrested out of 4515 cases filed while in Phase 2  Operation in October 915 people were arrested out of 710 cases filed.
