China’s former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Renjian, has been detained under corruption charges. The 62 year old was placed under investigation in may for violation of discipline and law and since been fired from the Communist party of China.
Tang Renjian has been accused of accepting bribes, abusing hai authority and illegally interfering in judicial activities. He is also been charged for “moral corruption” and “excessive greed”.
The former minister’s downfall is part of Chinese president Xi Jinping’s anti corruption campaign, in which numerous high ranking officials has been targeted. Xi opposition has been stating that it’s a move to eliminate political opponents.
Tang’s gains will be confiscated by the government and he will face prosecution.
