China identified 13 American companies in this arms deal case on Thursday, including the drone manufacturers Rapid Flight and BRINC Drones. Six officials were also sanctioned, including Raytheon’s VP of Naval Power, Barbara Borgonovi, and BRINC Drones founder and CEO, Blake Resnick.
This action comes after China vehemently opposed the US approving a possible $385 million sale of F-16 fighter and radar spare parts and support to Taiwan, claiming that doing so would compromise its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In announcing the restrictions, Beijing invoked its recently enacted Anti-Foreign restrictions Law, which is part of a growing list of countermeasures that replicate many of the punitive acts taken by the US against China, which considers Taiwan its own territory and its President Lai Ching-te a dangerous separatist, opposes any foreign interactions or visits by the island’s leaders.
Washington’s acceptance of a $387 million defence package for Taiwan last month, which included fighter aircraft spare parts, “seriously damaged China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” according to China’s Foreign Ministry.
The drone manufacturers Rapid Flight and BRINC Drones were among the 13 American companies cited by China in its action on Thursday. Additionally, six executives were sanctioned, including Blake Resnick, the creator and CEO of BRINC Drones, and Barbara Borogove, president of Naval Power at Raytheon.
Beijing used its recently enacted Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law to announce the sanctions, which are part of a growing array of remedies that closely resemble many of the harsh measures the US employs against China.
China’s Foreign Ministry stated last month that Washington’s acceptance of a $387 million defense package for Taiwan, which included replacement parts for fighter jets, had “seriously damaged China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Companies targeted by the sanctions include Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc (TDY), BRINC Drones Inc and Shield AI Inc, the foreign ministry said in Thursday’s statement.
