China has banned the export of dual-use goods to 28 US firms and put sanctions against 10 US Defence entities as unreliable following Washington’s arms sales to Taiwan.

Taiwan is governed independently despite that China considers it as one of its rebellious provinces and has vowed to unify it with the mainland by any means. However, the US does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state but is against the use of any force to unify it. Further, Washington is Taiwan’s strategic ally and largest supplier of weapons.

China’s Ministry of Commerce on Thursday mentioned the move to be aimed at maintaining national security and fulfilling international obligations including non-proliferation as per China’s export control law and regulation on export of dual-use items.

The firms which have been banned include General Dynamics, Boeing Defence, Space & Security, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and Raytheon Missiles & Defence among other defence and aerospace firms.

The ten entities declared as unreliable include five subsidiaries of Lockheed Martin, three subsidiaries of General Dynamics along with Raytheon Missile Systems, and a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

Banning of these entities prohibits them from engaging in import and export activities and making new investments in China. Further, the senior executives of these entities are also banned from entering China with all provided permits and residency to be revoked.
