The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for a severe cold wave and dense fog in north India, including Delhi, ahead of the New Year celebrations.

According to the IMD forecast, a western disturbance near Pakistan will cause minimum temperatures to plummet by 3-5 degree Celsius in northwest India over the next two days. This will lead to cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh from December 29 to January 1, 2025.

The situation is expected to worsen in some parts of Himachal Pradesh on December 30 and 31, with severe cold wave conditions predicted. Punjab and Haryana will also experience cold wave conditions from December 29 to January 3, 2025.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West and East Rajasthan, while a yellow alert has been sounded in Himachal Pradesh.

The cold wave and dense fog are expected to disrupt normal life, especially during the New Year celebrations. The IMD has advised people to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the cold wave.

The Delhi government has also issued an advisory, asking people to avoid venturing out during the cold wave and to follow necessary safety precautions.

The cold wave and dense fog are expected to persist until January 1, after which the temperatures are expected to rise slightly. However, the IMD has warned that the cold wave conditions may return later in the month.
