Union Home Minister Amit Shah was criticized by the Congress on Tuesday for his comments about B R Ambedkar. Congress claimed that Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments during a Constitutional discussion in the Rajya Sabha demonstrated the “lot of hatred” that the BJP and RSS leaders have for B R Ambedkar and called for an apology from him.
Rahul Gandhi, the former head of the Congress, stated that those who believe in Manu Smriti will definitely be at odds with Ambedkar.
“Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar’. If they had taken God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven),” Shah said, taking a swipe at the opposition.
Shah stated that although the BJP is pleased that the Congress is using Ambedkar’s name, the party needs to express its true feelings for him as well. He drew attention to the fact that Ambedkar was forced to leave the first Cabinet because he disagreed with the policies of the Congress-led government at the time, particularly Article 370.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge taking jab at Shah, said the ‘insult’ of Babasaheb by the home minister “has once again proven that the BJP-RSS were against the tricolor, their forefathers opposed the Ashok Chakra, and the people of the Sangh Parivar wanted to implement Manu Smriti instead of the Constitution of India from the very first day”. “Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar Ji did not allow this to happen, that is why there is so much hatred towards him, Kharge said.
