On Saturday, congress criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Kuwait while the people of Manipur continued to suffer from ongoing ethnic violence which started on 3 May 2023.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Kuwait to strengthen bilateral relations in defense and trade. This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years. The trip comes just two weeks after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and amidst the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh mocked the Prime Minister’s absence from the crisis-hit state, posting on social media, “Such is their fate, As Mr. Modi refuses to find a date, The people of Manipur continue to wait, While the Frequent Flyer PM is off to Kuwait.”
The Congress has repeatedly urged Modi to visit Manipur, arguing that his presence could help restore peace and stability. Ethnic violence in Manipur has claimed over 220 lives, primarily from the Meitei and Kuki communities, as well as security.
