Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which left civilians and security personnel injured. Singh termed the attack as “cowardly and unprovoked” and an assault on peace and harmony.
The Manipur government has rushed adequate security personnel to the affected areas, and the injured are receiving necessary medical assistance. The government has called for calm and unity in the face of such challenges.
Singh emphasized the need for proper coordination and understanding between central forces and state police when dealing with such situations. This incident is the latest in a series of violent clashes in Manipur, which has been experiencing ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May last year.
The Manipur government has been working to restore peace and normalcy in the state, with the Centre also providing support. The situation remains tense, but the government is taking steps to prevent further escalation.
