Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi denounced the terrorist attack in New Orleans, calling it cowardly. He expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, wishing them strength and solace as they recover from the tragedy.
Through a post on X Modi stated, “We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in new Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy.”
A truck rammed through bourbon Street in New Orleans on 1st January around 3 am. The truck driver is identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar who drove a ford F-150 at lighting speed and rampaged through the crowd, killing 16 people and injuring 35 others.
The suspect Jabbar is a 42 year old American citizen born and raised in Texas, who had served in US army for 10 years.
The FBI found a IS flag on the truck with some videos of Jabbar discussing his desire to kill , while driving to new Orleans. The investigation is ongoing. FBI is looking into whether Jabbar had any accomplice.
The attack had a significant impact on the city, with many hotels in the area being evacuated.
