New Delhi: Dreaded gangster Romil Vohra, wanted in multiple brutal murders across Haryana, was killed in an early morning police encounter near the Delhi-Haryana border. The shootout, which took place on 24th June, involved a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police and the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

Acting on a tip-off received during the intervening night of 23rd June, authorities were alerted that Romil Vohra was planning to commit another crime in Delhi. A swift joint operation was launched, and the suspect was intercepted in South Delhi near the interstate border.

During the confrontation, an exchange of fire broke out between the police team and Vohra. In the gunfight, one Sub-Inspector each from the Delhi and Haryana police sustained injuries. Vohra was also hit by police gunfire and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Romil Vohra, a native of Yamunanagar in Haryana, had been on the run for several weeks. The Haryana Police had placed a reward of ₹3 lakh on his arrest. He was accused in a string of violent crimes, including the high-profile murder of Shantanu in Kurukshetra and a gruesome triple homicide in Yamunanagar. In addition, he was wanted in a case under the Arms Act registered by Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

Authorities believe Vohra was working under the direction of gangster Veerendra Pratap alias Kala Rana and his brother Surya Pratap alias Noni Rana, who operates from abroad. The duo had claimed responsibility for the recent killings in Haryana, according to police sources. Veerendra Pratap was recently extradited from Bangkok and is currently in custody.

The encounter marks a major success for law enforcement agencies working to curb organized crime in the region. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the criminal network Vohra was part of, and to trace his associates who may still be at large.

Both injured police officers are undergoing treatment and are reported to be out of danger. The authorities have lauded the bravery of the teams involved in neutralizing one of the region’s most dangerous fugitives.
