Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the devasting impact of cyclone in chido on Mayotte, a French overseas territory near Madagascar. PM said, “India stands in solidarity with France and is ready to extend all possible assistance.”
PM Modi sent his condolences to the victims and their families through social media stating he is deeply saddened by the devastation caused by cyclone chido in Mayotte. His prays that the victims and their families get over their griefs and heal quickly.
PM also praised French President Emmanuel Macron stating he is confident that under Macron’s guidance France will overcome this tragedy with resilience and resolve. Also India stands in solidarity with France and is ready to extend their support anytime.
The cyclone left a trail of destruction in Mayotte with 70% of population affected, the officials are fearing that the death toll may rise as many areas remain buried under rubble and roads are blocked.
However relief and aids are underway with 400 additional paramilitary personnel deployed to assist the 1600 existing staff members in rescue operations efforts. A night-time curfew has been imposed in Mayotte to maintain order.
The cyclone came at the speed of 200km/h, unaliving 22 people and injuring over 1400 people.
