‘Deeply Concerned By Awful Violence’: Priti Patel Condemns Attacks On Hindus In Bangladesh

The UK has a long-standing commitment to the protection of human rights. Following the commitments, Priti Patel raised the issue in the parliament and asked the government how they are engaging with the Bangladeshi government on the present violence. She further added that the degree of escalation in the violence is deeply concerning. Se said, “We are watching with horror and shock as further violence spreads in Bangladesh.”

During her speech she said, “I am deeply concerned by the awful violence we have seen in Bangladesh, and my thoughts are with those affected.” Both the MPs condemns the attack on Hindu minorities and are showing their concerns over the atrocities on the religious minorities of Bangladesh. Barry Gardiner through a post on ‘X’ said,” Today I asked an Urgent Question to the Foreign Minister about violence targeted against the Hindu Community in Bangladesh.”

He later mentioned that since August, Bangladesh has seen over 2000 violent incidences, mainly targeting the minority. He also mentioned the arrest of Chinmoy Das and called for urgent action to restore law and order.

In the response to the questions raised by the MPs , Catherine West, under-secretary of state for Foreign, commonwealth and development affairs, said that the UK government will continue to monitor the situation, including making representation from this houses and will engage with the interim government in Bangladesh on the importance of freedom of religion or belief specifically as it affects the Hindu community
