Delhi Godman Case Deepens: “No Periods, No Excuse”

Shocking Revelations Shake Delhi Spiritual Institute

The serene image of a Delhi-based spiritual institute was shattered after allegations against its director, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, came to light. What began as whispers of irregularities soon transformed into a full-fledged controversy, culminating in criminal charges. The scandal, now under active police investigation, has exposed not only alleged misconduct by the self-styled godman but also a system of cover-ups that shielded him for years.

The Letter That Triggered the Storm

The turning point came on August 1, 2025, when an Indian Air Force officer of Group Captain rank, serving as Director of the University Outreach Program at the Directorate of Education, Air Headquarters, wrote a formal letter to the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research (SRISIIM) in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

The officer, himself a former student of the institute, revealed receiving multiple complaints from students about Swami Chaitanyananda’s arbitrary decisions, vindictive behavior, and inappropriate communication. According to the letter, the godman frequently messaged female students at odd hours, often summoning them via WhatsApp under questionable pretexts.

This letter not only exposed misconduct but also compelled the institute’s management to initiate a probe.

Students Break Their Silence

Soon after, the floodgates opened. Seventeen female students formally complained to the Vasant Kunj Police, reiterating allegations that the accused would message them late at night and summon them privately. The students alleged they were pressured to delete evidence of these interactions.

Three female wardens of the hostel were accused of colluding with Chaitanyananda by urging survivors to erase chats and remain silent. Once their role was confirmed, the management dismissed all three wardens.

Evidence and FIR Strengthen the Case

In response to mounting complaints, the institute compiled nearly 300 pages of documentary evidence, including testimonies, internal correspondence, and digital records. These materials were handed over to the Delhi Police.

Consequently, FIR No. 320 of 2025 was registered against Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati. The charges include fraud, forgery, cheating, and harassment. Police sources confirm that more survivors may come forward as the investigation deepens.

Institute Distances Itself From the Godman

In an official press statement, the Sri Sharada Institute emphasized that Chaitanyananda Saraswati was neither affiliated with the Sri Sharada Peetham of Sringeri nor linked to the lineage of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The institute assured the public that it had taken immediate action and was cooperating fully with law enforcement.

“The Peetham was informed via the Air Force officer’s letter about the registration of the FIR. We are committed to pursuing necessary legal action,” the statement said.

A Pattern of Exploitation?

The unfolding case has raised disturbing questions about the unchecked power of self-styled gurus within educational and spiritual institutions. Experts point out that survivors often hesitate to speak up due to the fear of retaliation and the influence such figures wield. The fact that military personnel had to intervene underscores the severity of the allegations and the systemic failure of oversight mechanisms.

Wider Implications

This scandal comes at a time when India is witnessing growing debates over accountability in spiritual institutions. The revelations have intensified public scrutiny of self-proclaimed godmen who operate under the guise of education and spirituality.

Legal experts argue that the swift registration of the FIR and the dismissal of the wardens signal a stronger institutional response than in previous controversies. However, they caution that the case must not lose momentum, as many such allegations in the past have faded without justice being delivered.

The Road Ahead

As the Delhi Police continue their investigation, survivors, activists, and former students are watching closely. The scandal surrounding Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati is no longer confined to one institute; it has become symbolic of the urgent need to safeguard students from predatory figures in positions of authority.

Whether justice will be delivered remains to be seen, but the IAF officer’s courageous step in writing that initial letter has already ensured that the matter cannot be swept under the carpet.
