A thick blanket of fog has enveloped Delhi, causing widespread disruptions to air and rail travel. For the second consecutive day, dense fog reduced visibility to near zero, forcing the delay of hundreds of flights and trains.

At the Indira Gandhi International Airport, 51 flights were rerouted due to poor visibility, while 19 flights were diverted between 12:15 am and 1:30 am. This comes a day after over 400 flights were delayed at the airport on Friday due to dense fog.

The fog also had a significant impact on rail travel, with 81 trains delayed for the second consecutive morning. According to media reports, the New Delhi Vande Bharat Express was delayed by over four hours, while the Varanasi Vande Bharat Express was delayed by a staggering 14 hours.

The dense fog has made it challenging for non-CAT III compliant aircraft to take off and land, further exacerbating the disruptions. CAT III compliant aircraft are equipped with specialized instruments that enable them to operate in low-visibility conditions.

The fog has brought the nation’s capital to a standstill, with commuters facing significant delays and disruptions. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted that the foggy conditions will persist for the next few days, raising concerns about the continued impact on air and rail travel.
