Delhi High Court said, condemning the Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi government for improperly handling the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report and said, “The way you have dragged your feet raises doubts about your bona fides.”

In a petition filed last year, opposition leader Vijender Gupta and BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai, and Jitendra Mahajan asked the speaker to order a meeting of the assembly to tabulate the CAG reports.

A single-judge bench led by Justice Sachin Datta said the government “dragged its feet” to prevent the assembly session from taking place.

The court criticised the Delhi Government for its delay in addressing the CAG reports, stating that they have delayed the session, which is evident from the timeline. They need to have started a debate in the House and sent the reports to the Speaker right away.

The Delhi government questioned how a session could be held with elections approaching in response to the High Court’s observations. During the hearing, Justice Datta stated that the speaker had the authority to call an assembly session and inquired as to whether the court could order the speaker to do so, particularly with elections approaching.

The government’s senior lawyer objected to the petition’s “political” nature and said that the LG office had shared the findings with reporters and made them public.

Still, the hearing is underway.
