The Cyber Police of West District in Delhi announced Saturday that they had caught a cyber extortionist who was posing as a freelancer from the United States. The accused person name Tushar Singh Bisht, created profiles on Bumble, Snapchat, and other platforms using a fictitious ID and a virtual foreign mobile number while posing as a US-based freelancer.
Tushar, a resident of Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA), lived with his family. His father works as a driver, his mother is a homemaker and his sister is employed in Gurugram, as per reports. Despite having a stable job, Tushar got involved into cybercrime out of greed and a desire to exploit women.
DCP West Vichitra Veer said that he used fake profiles and images to win the trust of women between the ages of 18 and 30 defrauding over 700 women. After establishing a connection, he asked for their contact details before using private images and videos as extortion. Thirteen credit cards, a cell phone, and an app-based virtual international mobile number were found in his possession.
A team led by ACP Arvind Yadav used technical analysis and intelligence gathering to track Tushar’s activities. He was arrested during a raid in Shakarpur. Police recovered a mobile phone, app-based virtual numbers, and 13 credit cards from him. “The accused exploited technology to deceive and extort women,” said DCP West Vichitra Veer.
