An advisory has been released by Delhi health authorities in response to an increase in Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and other respiratory virus outbreaks worldwide, especially in China.

A statement claims that Director General of Health Services, Dr. Vandana Bagga met with chief district medical officers and the IDSP state program officer to discuss readiness to handle respiratory infections in Delhi. Strict isolation protocols and the use of universal precautions for suspected cases have been made mandatory.

For efficient monitoring, the order highlights the necessity for healthcare facilities to maintain thorough records of lab-confirmed influenza cases and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Essential drugs such as paracetamol, antihistamines, bronchodilators, cough syrups, and oxygen for mild cases should be kept on hand in hospitals. Hospitals are required to use the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) to report instances of SARI and influenza-like illness. For suspected cases, stringent isolation techniques and general safety measures are needed.

However, Data as of January 2, 2025, from the World Health Organization (WHO), National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), and Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) confirm that there has been no notable increase in respiratory infections.
