New Delhi: Delhi Police celebrated its 4th Commissionerate Day Ceremonial Parade at the Parade Ground of New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp, with grandeur and solemnity.
The event, which marks the adoption of the Commissionerate system on July 1, 1978, saw the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, preside as Chief Guest and take the ceremonial salute. Delhi Police Commissioner, Shri Sanjay Arora, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.
This annual parade, part of Delhi Police’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations since 2022, commemorates its evolution from a segment of Punjab Police (until 1947) to an independent commissionerate system.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the force and acknowledged the continuous efforts of Delhi Police in ensuring peace, security, and justice in the national capital.
He commended the force’s growing efficiency and technological advancements, noting that it stands among the finest police forces in the country. Emphasizing the significance of its motto — peace, service, and justice — he praised Delhi Police for tackling issues such as cybercrime, human trafficking, drug abuse, and the presence of illegal immigrants with dedication and innovation.
The LG highlighted key achievements, such as Delhi Police’s 17-time recognition as the Best Marching Contingent in the Republic Day Parade, which continued in 2025, and the recent FICCI Smart Policing Jury Award for forensic innovation.
He also acknowledged the force’s initiatives like Smart Police Booths, the revitalization of the ZIPNET portal, and citizen-friendly Zero E-FIR systems.
Paying homage to fallen heroes, he lauded their courage and honored their sacrifices. He also commended the awardees for their distinguished service and bravery in the line of duty.
Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the LG for his constant support and presence at the event. He reaffirmed Delhi Police’s commitment to fighting crime, especially in areas like cybercrime, narcotics, organized crime, and crimes against women and children.
Highlighting the department’s anti-narcotics drive, CP Arora revealed that over 26,000 kg of illegal drugs worth approximately ₹9,200 crore were destroyed in 2024. He further noted that in the current year alone, about 4,900 kg of drugs valued at ₹6 crore had already been destroyed.
Enforcement actions included multiple cases registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS), along with the seizure of assets worth nearly ₹4.75 crore.
Regarding the implementation of new criminal laws, the Commissioner stated that all personnel have been trained accordingly, resulting in the registration of over 2.5 lakh FIRs and the filing of charge sheets in over 62,000 cases to date.
The ceremonial parade, led by ACP Mahendra Singh Charan, featured six companies drawn from the six territorial ranges of Delhi Police — Southern, New Delhi, Western, Eastern, Northern, and Central — each company comprising platoons of both male and female personnel.
Special units such as the Delhi Armed Police, SWAT, Security Battalion, Communication Unit, Ministerial Staff, and Traffic Police also participated with coordinated precision.
One of the emotional highlights of the event was the presentation of the Ahat Veer Samman Patra-2025, which recognizes police personnel who were injured or martyred in the line of duty.
Four posthumous awards were presented to the families of Late ASI Satbir Singh, Ct. Hemant Yadav, Ct. Viktor N., and Ct. (Dvr.) Nikhil Yadav. Honorees who sustained injuries included Inspector Ravinder Kumar Tyagi and his team — SI Ashok Kumar, ASI Deepak Kumar Tiwari, and Ct. Manikant Singh — along with ASI Jiyanand, ASI Bhupendra Singh, Ct. Sandeep Kumar, Ct. Neeraj Kumar, and DHG Ct. Ashok Kumar.
The LG also presented trophies for excellence in cleanliness and maintenance. PS Greater Kailash was awarded the first position for ‘Best Police Station in Cleanliness’, received by SHO Insp. Bhanu Pratap. PS Sultanpuri came second, with the trophy received by SHO Insp. Ravindra Malik.
In the category of ‘Best Residential Colony of Delhi Police,’ the awards were distributed as follows: SI Ombir Tyagi for Police Colony Nyayik Abhiraksha Vahini, Vikaspuri (Big Colony); HC Harwinder Singh Gill for Police Colony, Rohini Sector-11 (Medium Colony); and SI M.A. Yadav for Staff Quarters, DCP Office Complex, Janakpuri (Small Colony).
