New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a key member of the notorious Jitender Gogi gang.

The accused, identified as Mohit alias Panchhi, a resident of Panchhi Jatan village in Ganaur, Sonipat, Haryana, was apprehended in Goa by a special team of the Crime Branch’s Northern Range (NDR), led by Inspector Rampal and operating under the supervision of ACP Umesh Barthwal.

Mohit, a hardened criminal and proclaimed offender, had been evading authorities since February 2025 after he jumped interim bail granted for four days to attend his sister’s wedding.

The bail was granted in connection with an MCOCA case (FIR No. 252/18) registered at PS Alipur, Delhi, and investigated by the Special Cell. Instead of surrendering after the court-mandated period, Mohit absconded and was declared a proclaimed offender.

Operation

Acting on specific intelligence, the Crime Branch team launched a well-coordinated operation to locate and apprehend the absconding criminal.

Sources had indicated that Mohit had taken shelter in Goa and was using evasive tactics to avoid detection, including frequently changing locations and using mobile phones from distant places to mislead authorities.

Following ground-level surveillance and verification, the team tracked Mohit to the Martyr Circle area of North Goa. On July 4, 2025, in a swift and strategic operation, the team moved in and apprehended him without allowing any chance to escape.

Mohit’s Criminal Background

Mohit alias Panchhi is a long-time associate of the dreaded Gogi gang, which has been involved in a series of violent crimes across Delhi-NCR and other regions.

He first came under the scanner in 2016 when he, along with nine other accomplices, launched a violent attack on a police escort party in Bahadurgarh to facilitate the escape of gang leader Jitender Gogi from custody.

The incident was not only a serious security breach but also underscored the gang’s highly organized and violent nature. A separate criminal case related to the attack was registered at Sadar Police Station, Bahadurgarh.

Further investigations revealed Mohit’s involvement in several other serious crimes, many of which were committed on behalf of the Gogi gang. In 2018, he was arrested in an MCOCA case registered at PS Alipur, which targeted the gang’s organized criminal activities.

Despite being behind bars, his release on interim bail earlier this year provided him an opportunity to escape and continue operating from different parts of South India.

Life on Run

Since his disappearance in February, Mohit had been on the run, reportedly moving between Mumbai, Goa, and Karnataka to stay ahead of law enforcement agencies.

Police sources confirmed that he adopted various disguises and frequently switched hideouts to evade capture. He also used mobile phones in a deceptive manner — operating them far from his actual location to throw off digital surveillance.

Despite these attempts, persistent efforts by the Delhi Police team paid off. Through a combination of technical analysis, field intelligence, and close coordination among team members, the investigators managed to close in on him and bring him into custody.

Police Team Behind Arrest

The successful arrest was made possible by a committed team from the NDR of Crime Branch, RK Puram. The team comprised SI Amit, SI Hemant Kumar, SI Parmod, SI Mukesh Singh, ASI Siddharth, ASI Ramdas, ASI Ankit, ASI Ombir, ASI Narender, ASI Sanjay, ASI Amit, HC Dharmender, HC Yashpal, HC Ankit, and Constables Tejpal and Gaurav.

Significance of Arrest

The apprehension of Mohit is being seen as a major win for Delhi Police in its ongoing crackdown on organized criminal syndicates operating in and around the capital.

His arrest not only removes a dangerous element from the streets but may also provide leads into the activities and network of the Gogi gang, which has been responsible for several high-profile crimes in recent years.

Further interrogation is underway, and authorities are hopeful of extracting more information that may assist in dismantling the remaining network of the Gogi gang and preventing future crimes.
