New Delhi: In a major crackdown under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully dismantled an active interstate heroin supply chain. Two key drug traffickers from Uttar Pradesh were arrested, and over 1 kg of high-purity heroin was seized in the operation.

The seized heroin, weighing a total of 1,053 grams, has an estimated value of more than ₹5 crore in the international market. The suspects were caught while attempting to deliver the narcotics in the national capital, marking a significant blow to narcotic smuggling networks operating in North India.

Intelligence-Led Operation

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a team from the Crime Branch’s ANTF, led by Inspector Shiv Kumar and operating under the supervision of ACP Rajkumar (Zone-II), began tracking a narcotics ring operating out of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The gang, allegedly led by 26-year-old Anas Khan, was reportedly supplying heroin across Delhi-NCR and nearby regions.

After sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering, a breakthrough came when actionable input was received regarding an impending drug deal near Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital on Zero Pusta Road in Delhi.

On July 1, 2025, a raiding party comprising ASI Praveen, HC Samrat, HC Surjeet, and Ct. Vikrant—under the leadership of Inspector Shiv Kumar—conducted a swift and coordinated operation, intercepting the suspects during the illicit transaction.

Arrests and Recovery

Two individuals, Anas Khan and his associate Sudheer Kumar (also known as Ritik), were apprehended at the scene. The duo was found in possession of commercial quantities of heroin—527 grams with Anas Khan and 526 grams with Sudheer Kumar—totaling 1,053 grams. The narcotics were being transported in a white Maruti Suzuki Baleno bearing registration number UP 24AV 8148, which has also been seized by authorities.

A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 166/2025, dated July 2, 2025, at the Police Station Crime Branch. The suspects face charges under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Modus Operandi Uncovered

Preliminary investigation reveals that the duo sourced heroin from a supplier named Avnish, a resident of Badaun. Anas Khan played a central role in managing procurement and coordination, while Sudheer Kumar handled logistics and on-ground distribution. Their activities were part of a broader trafficking network targeting the Delhi-NCR region.

The heroin was transported using private vehicles in an attempt to avoid detection. The accused reportedly maintained a low profile, relying on limited contacts and covert communications to facilitate their operations.

Accused Background

Anas Khan, aged 26, hails from Ward No. 11, Usait in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He is self-employed in the eucalyptus (liptis) wood business. Financial difficulties are believed to have driven him into the drug trade. He has one prior case related to a physical altercation on his record.

Sudheer Kumar alias Ritik, aged 27, is a resident of Kumargaon, under the jurisdiction of PS Usait, Badaun. Employed as a helper in a local grocery store, he has no previous criminal record. He reportedly became involved through his association with Khan.

Significance of the Operation

The recovery of commercial quantity heroin and the arrest of key traffickers represent a major breakthrough for law enforcement. By disrupting this supply chain, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has significantly weakened a pipeline that fueled the distribution of narcotics across multiple states.

Key seizures from the operation include:

  • Heroin: 1,053 grams (classified as commercial quantity)
  • Vehicle: White Maruti Suzuki Baleno (UP 24AV 8148)
  • Estimated Market Value: ₹5 crore+

Authorities have launched further investigations to trace the broader network, including suppliers, financiers, and downstream distributors. More arrests are expected as the probe deepens.

Firm Action under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

This operation showcases the Delhi Police’s firm resolve to combat the drug menace as part of the NMBA initiative. Through meticulous planning and strategic intelligence work, the Crime Branch continues to deliver significant blows to organized narcotics networks.

Officials stated that this success will serve as a deterrent to others involved in drug trafficking and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining zero tolerance towards narcotics in the capital.
