Delhi Police has launched an investigation into allegations of unauthorized collection of women’s personal data under the guise of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ scheme.
The probe was initiated after Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit filed a complaint with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, alleging that private individuals were collecting personal data from women, promising them benefits under the scheme.
The ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ is an AAP initiative that promises to provide Rs 2,100 per month to eligible women. However, Dikshit’s complaint claims that the scheme is being used to collect personal data from women, which could potentially be misused.
The Delhi Police has formed specialized teams to investigate the matter, which will operate under the close supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). The teams will identify camps that are allegedly collecting personal data from women and take legal action against those found violating citizens’ privacy.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has denied the allegations, stating that the scheme is not yet operational and that there is no need for an investigation. He claimed that the BJP is trying to disrupt AAP’s registration camps and using the Delhi Police to halt the process.
Kejriwal also accused the BJP of lacking the courage to act directly and using Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit to file the complaint against the AAP. He claimed that the BJP and Congress are working together to stop the AAP.
The investigation has sparked a political row, with the AAP accusing the BJP of trying to sabotage its electoral prospects. The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to take place next year, and the AAP is hoping to retain power in the national capital.
