Delhi Police Refute Misconduct Allegations After Liquor Raid

Raid Conducted in Sunlight Colony

The Delhi Police have firmly denied allegations of misconduct leveled against one of their personnel following a raid in South East Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area on Saturday. According to the official statement, the raid was carried out after authorities received a complaint regarding the sale and consumption of illicit liquor in the locality. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Virender reached the spot around 9:30 am.

The officers confiscated a total of 20 quarters and 20 bottles of illicit liquor from the premises. This action was part of ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to curb the illegal liquor trade in the city, which has been linked to several health risks and law-and-order issues.

Allegations of Inappropriate Behaviour

Just hours after the raid, a second PCR call was received from a woman connected to the premises where the liquor was seized. She alleged that a member of the police team had behaved inappropriately during the raid. The complaint was immediately forwarded to a Woman Sub-Inspector, who was tasked with handling the matter with sensitivity and due process.

This allegation sparked tensions in the locality. By afternoon, a group of residents had gathered outside the Sunlight Colony Police Station demanding strict action against the accused police officer. The crowd expressed distrust over the conduct of the raid and sought accountability.

Senior Officers Step In

In response to the rising public anger, senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East District) and the Assistant Commissioner of Police from Lajpat Nagar, visited the station to pacify the protesters. They assured the public that the matter would be investigated fairly and that no officer would be given immunity if found guilty.

“Delhi Police stands committed to upholding the law. No one is above the law, and strict disciplinary action will follow if misconduct is proven,” said a senior officer while addressing the gathering.

Immediate Transfer of Officer

To ensure transparency and fairness, the officer involved in the raid was immediately transferred to district lines pending the outcome of the inquiry. Police officials clarified that the transfer was a precautionary measure to prevent any conflict of interest during the investigation.

The move was welcomed by community members, though they continued to stress that only a thorough probe would restore their faith in the police force. The officer’s removal from active duty was viewed as a step towards ensuring that the inquiry remains unbiased and credible.

Inquiry to Establish Facts

The Delhi Police have set up a formal inquiry to determine the sequence of events and examine the allegations in detail. A senior officer has been tasked with overseeing the process, and all parties involved are expected to be questioned. The inquiry will also assess whether the raid was conducted in accordance with established procedures and protocols.

Officials emphasized that the seizure of illicit liquor remains valid evidence against those running the illegal trade, regardless of the allegations. “The fight against illegal liquor continues. At the same time, we will not ignore complaints against our own personnel,” the police statement read.

Balancing Accountability and Law Enforcement

The case highlights the delicate balance law enforcement agencies must maintain between tackling crime and ensuring their personnel act responsibly and ethically. While the crackdown on illicit liquor is an ongoing priority for Delhi Police, allegations of misconduct—whether proven or not—can undermine community trust and hinder cooperation between the public and the police.

For now, the Delhi Police have promised complete transparency and accountability as the inquiry moves forward. Until the findings are made public, the case remains under close watch, drawing attention from both local residents and city officials concerned about the implications for public-police relations.
