Ahead of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections, Congress has placed Alka Lamba, All India Mahila Congress Chief against Chief Minister Atishi from 51- Kalka constituency.
Congress announced the candidature for Lamba through its official account on X captioned, “The Central Election Committee has approved the candidature of Ms. Alka Lamba as Congress candidate to contest the forthcoming general election to the Legislative Assembly of Delhi from 51-Kalkaji constituency.”
Following the announcement Lamba declared that she doesn’t think that she would be contesting against a chief minister since AAP Convenor has called Atishi as a temporary CM referring to her to be in the position just for a month more.
Lamba initially had been a part of Congress in her early days. She joined the Congress Student’s Wing, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in 1994 and later won the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections. She left Congress in 2013 and joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She won the Chandni Chowk seat in 2015 as an AAP candidate. She later left AAP in 2019 and rejoined Congress.
Meanwhile, in the 2020 elections Atishi won from the Kalkaji seat with over 55,000 votes defeating BJP’s Dharambir and Congress’ Shivani Chopra.
