With heavy rains continuing to lash Delhi and surrounding regions, major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet have issued advisories cautioning passengers about possible disruptions in flight operations. The airlines have urged flyers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and plan extra travel time due to waterlogging and traffic congestion across the capital.
Air India took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, writing: “Rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport.”

IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, also warned passengers about delays in reaching the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport owing to severe traffic jams and road blockages caused by the downpour. The airline stated: “Due to today’s downpour, several roads across Delhi are currently blocked or experiencing slow movement. Please allow extra time, take an alternate route if possible, and check your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport.”
SpiceJet too joined the advisory list, announcing that departures and arrivals at Delhi may face delays due to adverse weather conditions. The airline asked passengers to monitor their flight status closely for updates.

Weekend Rain Triggers Red Alert
Delhi-NCR has been reeling under heavy rains since the weekend. On Saturday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the capital region after intense rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. The alert, issued at 5:11 PM, remained in effect until 8:11 PM, with authorities advising residents to stay indoors and avoid low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding.
By Sunday, multiple areas of the city reported heavy waterlogging and severe traffic snarls. Areas such as Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, and Lodi Road recorded rainfall. Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar, and Deramandi also witnessed water accumulation, causing significant commuter distress.
Yellow Alert Active for Delhi-NCR
According to the IMD’s latest forecast, Delhi is expected to witness light rain and drizzle through Monday, with showers predicted to continue intermittently throughout the day. A yellow alert remains active for Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh and Gurugram in Haryana.
The weather office cautioned that more localized waterlogging and traffic disruptions could occur, particularly in low-lying areas. Residents have been urged to exercise caution while stepping out, while travelers have been asked to plan extra time for their journeys.
Impact on Air Travel and Commuters
The heavy downpour has had a cascading effect on air travel and road traffic in Delhi-NCR. On Sunday, massive traffic jams were reported across arterial roads, including Ring Road and stretches near the airport. Several passengers struggled to reach IGI Airport on time, while airlines faced delays due to crew members being stuck in gridlocks.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has also advised passengers to remain updated about their flights through airline websites and mobile apps. Officials said that while most runways remain operational, poor visibility and weather-induced delays could not be ruled out.
Authorities Urge Caution
Delhi Police and traffic officials have requested commuters to avoid heavily waterlogged areas and plan alternate routes in advance. Public transport services, including buses, are facing delays, while ride-hailing services have reported surge pricing due to high demand and slower movement.
Municipal authorities are also on high alert, with teams deployed to pump out water from submerged roads and clear blocked drainage points. However, the persistence of showers is likely to prolong inconvenience for commuters and travelers over the next 24 hours.
