The lowest temperature in Delhi this season was 4.5° Celsius on Wednesday, December 11, the coldest dawn of the season.
Chilly winds on Wednesday marked the arrival of cold wave conditions in the national capital as Delhi recorded a low of 4.5° celcius, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The lowest recorded minimum temperature within this time frame was 4.1° Celsius on December 6, 1987, according to the statistics. Similar cold wave conditions are expected for the next two days, according to the IMD’s yellow advisory.
The data indicates that there were no cold wave days in December 2023 or 2022. However, a cold wave with a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius occurred in November 2020.
A cold wave happens when the lowest temperature deviates by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius from the average daytime temperature. A “severe cold wave” occurs when the negative departure rises above 6.4° Celcius.
