New Delhi, July 20 – Delhi University (DU) has officially released the first seat allocation list for undergraduate admissions for the academic year 2025–26. In a major development, the university has allocated a total of 93,166 seats under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) for just 71,624 available seats across 79 undergraduate programmes in 69 colleges. The over-allocation aims to account for possible dropouts and reshuffling that typically occur during the admission cycle.
According to Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at DU, the university made additional allocations in certain courses and colleges that historically report vacant seats toward the end of the admission process. “Based on last year’s data, extra allocations help us ensure that maximum seats are eventually filled,” Gandhi stated. Notably, by 7 PM on July 19, just two hours after the list went live, over 27,500 candidates had already accepted their allocated seats.
Diverse Categories See Representation
This first round includes seat allocations across various reservation and special categories such as unreserved, Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Sikh minorities, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Kashmiri Migrants (KM), single girl child, and orphan (male and female).
In the single girl child category, 1,325 seats were allocated, while the orphan category saw 259 allocations—127 for female candidates and 132 for male candidates.
Important Deadlines and Next Steps
Candidates who have been allotted seats must accept or freeze their seats by 4:59 PM on Monday, July 21. Choosing the “freeze” option confirms a candidate’s seat and excludes them from further rounds of allocation.
Colleges will verify and approve applications simultaneously during this period, with the verification window closing at 4:59 PM on Tuesday, July 22. Once approved, students must complete the online fee payment process by Wednesday, July 23, to confirm their admission.
For those still aiming for a higher preference, DU will release a list of vacant seats on the candidate dashboard by 5 PM on Thursday, July 24. Students can reorder their preferences from Thursday evening until 4:59 PM on Friday, July 25.
The second seat allocation list will be published at 5 PM on Monday, July 28.
Performance-Based Admissions in Round Three
The university also clarified that performance-based undergraduate programmes—including BA (Hons) Hindustani Music, BA (Hons) Karnataka Music, BA (Hons) Percussion Music, BSc in Physical Education, Health Education and Sports, and Bachelor of Fine Art—will have their seat allocations in the third round. Candidates applying for these courses are advised to consult the respective college or department websites for trial schedules and additional requirements.
Academic Session Begins August 1
Delhi University has announced that the new academic session for first-year UG students will commence on August 1, 2025. With the multi-stage allocation process, the university aims to minimize the number of vacant seats and ensure a smooth start to the academic year.
DU’s transparent and digitally managed CSAS-UG system continues to evolve, offering flexibility to applicants while ensuring that seat utilization across categories and colleges remains optimal. With over 93,000 initial allocations and several more rounds to go, thousands of students are now one step closer to realizing their academic aspirations at one of India’s premier universities.
