Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is eagerly awaiting his visit to Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, for the Z-morh tunnel inauguration.
Responding to the X post of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, regarding the preparedness of the above-mentioned tunnel, Modi wrote, “I am eagerly awaiting my visit to Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, for the tunnel inauguration.” He further wrote, “You rightly point out the benefits for tourism and the local economy.”
This comes after Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah posted on X on Saturday about his visit to inspect the preparation for the scheduled inauguration by PM Modi on Monday. And also wrote about the significance of Sonmarg as a popular tourist place and its importance for locals.
Abdullah wrote, “Visited Sonmarg today to review preparations for PM Narendra Modi ji’s visit on Monday. The inauguration of the Z-morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round. Sonmarg will now be developed as a great ski resort. The local population will not have to leave in winter, and the travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also reduce.”
Jammu and Kashmir CM also posted some aerial photos of the tunnel in another post, which were loved by PM Modi. The PM in his post wrote, “Also, loved the aerial pictures and videos!”
The Z-Morh Tunnel is a 6.5 km long, 2-lane road tunnel between Gagangair and Sonamarg in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir.
It has great strategic significance for India, as it will provide quicker and year-long access to Zoji-la. The tunnel, along with the Zoji-La Tunnel, located 325 km west towards Leh, will ensure uninterrupted communication between Srinagar and Kargil.
