Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan strongly rejected the forced relocation of Palestinians from war-torn Gaza on Wednesday following remarks made by US President Donald Trump that suggested the relocation of Gazans to Egypt and Jordan.

Removing “the Palestinian people from their land is an injustice that we cannot take part in,” Sisi stated in his first public reaction to Trump’s comments. Speaking with Kenyan President William Ruto during a press conference in Cairo, he reiterated Egypt’s firm backing for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He stated, adding that he is confident Trump can help bring about “a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. Further, he added they cannot compromise their historic stance in support of a Palestinian state. Egypt is “determined to work with President Trump, who seeks to achieve the desired peace based on the two-state solution,” he said.

King Abdullah II of Jordan, meantime, reaffirmed his nation’s “strong stance on the necessity of preserving the Palestinians on their territory and ensuring their legal rights, in conformity with the Israeli and Palestinian two-state solution” in Brussels.

Sami Abu Zuhri, another Hamas official, cautioned Trump against adopting the same “failed” strategies that Joe Biden, his predecessor, employed.

Abu Zuhri told Reuters, “The people of Gaza have seen death and have refused to leave their homeland and they will not leave it regardless of any other reasons.”

With its Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi assuring reporters that the nation’s position against any eviction of Palestinians from Gaza remained “firm and unwavering,” Jordan likewise seemed to reject Trump’s proposal.

Although Egypt has not yet responded, it has stated repeatedly that it opposes the displacement of Palestinians.

Western-supported Mahmoud Abbas, the president of Palestine, denounced the comments. According to a statement released by the official Palestinian news agency, “Our people will remain steadfast and will not leave their homeland.”
