Finally, all speculations come to an end about the suspense over the new Maharashtra CM. Following the conclusion of the current assembly session on Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, presented his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Accompanied by his Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, he arrived at Raj Bhavan at 11.15 am.
He will continue as the caretaker CM of Maharashtra till the new CM takes oath. Fadnavis had been talk of the town as first choice for CM, also backed by RSS. Shinde has expressed interest in retaining his role. However, the official announcement by BJP led Coalition, Mahayuti, is withheld.
Since 2019, Maharashtra’s political environment has seen substantial changes. After the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won a majority in that year’s assembly elections, the Shiv Sena broke up relations with the BJP due to differences over the post of Chief Minister.
The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi, a coalition of the Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena, then formed the government in November 2018 under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. Then in June 2022, Shinde left the Shiv Sena to join the BJP in forming a government. This is politics, and tables can turn at a glance. CM profile is expected to be with Mr. Fadnavis, who seems to be the most popular one.
